Helmet to helmet hit on Jimmy Graham

Drew Brees’ performance in Monday night’s game against the Giants was legend–wait for it–ary!

All that talk about the Giants’ pass rush? Forget about it! Monday night was all about the New Orleans offense that led the Saints to a 49-24 victory.

Quarterback Drew Brees put in the one of the most solid performances ever seen on Monday Night Football, passing for 363 yards and four touchdowns. And a rushing touchdown! In the third quarter, Brees showed his ability to extend the play outside the pocket, escaping two defenders and working through his progressions. Epic!

Tight end Jimmy Graham had five catches for 84 yards and a TD. Lance Moore had five catches for 54 yards and two TDs.

On the ground, the Saints were also looking good. Both Pierre Thomas and Mark Ingram scored rushing touchdowns. Thomas ran for 63 yards, and Ingram for 80.

The game was basically a blowout. The Saints have a short week ahead before facing the Detroit Lions on Sunday and this was a good way to begin that short week.

Other thoughts on the Beatdown on the Bayou:

There were some vicious hits made by both defenses that led to personal foul calls. In one Jimmy Graham was literally bent over backwards. Saints fans everywhere breathed a collective sigh of relief when Graham popped up and jogged over to the sidelines.

I was upset when rookie safety Isa Abdul-Quddus was penalized for his hit on Giants’ wide receiver Hakeem Nicks. Sure it was LOUD, but it looked like a great play. But, the refs were calling it on both sides. Strong safety Kenny Phillips received a penalty for the play against Graham.

Giants’ defensive end Osi Umenyiora left the game with an ankle injury. In another game at another time, this might have been a bigger deal. But, the pass rush was not a factor in this game.

Drew Brees has plenty of talented targets. Lance Moore has been a decent player all season but overshadowed by players like Jimmy Graham and Marques Colston. It was refreshing to see Moore step it up this game.
